Snorkel Molokini Crater, Maui

Rated one of the top snorkeling and diving destinations in the world, Maui's Molokini Crater is the best place to explore Hawaii's underwater wonderland.

Famous for its amazingly clear waters and excellent visibility - and designated a protected marine sanctuary, this offshore wonder is home to over 250 species of colorful reef fish.

The History of Molokini Crater
A natural shelter, teeming with life, Molokini Crater is a largely submerged volcanic cinder cone that lies midway between Maui and its neighbor island, Kahoolawe.  Half of the Molokini Crater rim has eroded away, causing the floor of the crater to fill with water, leaving a crescent moon islet and a sheltered coral reef.  The walls of the crater provide a natural nesting place for sea birds, and became a sea bird sanctuary in 1977.

 Legend Has It...
Molokini Crater was once a beautiful woman. She and Pele, the fire goddess, were in love with the same man. The jealous Pele cut off her head and transformed her into stone.

How do you get to Molokini Crater?
Most visitors travel from Ma'alaea Harbor (10 miles from Molokini, about 45-60 minutes away) or the Kihei Boat Ramp (6 miles or about 30 minutes away).  One of the reasons experienced travelers to Maui prefer Kai Kanani Sailing Charters for Molokini snorkeling adventures is that we're just 15 minutes away from Molokini Crater.
